The Fyris River serves as a natural dividing line between modern Uppsala and the older part of the city, which is dominated by student nations, university buildings, as well as historical landmarks and exciting events.
Embark on a bus tour highlighting Uppsala’s most significant attractions, where our guide will narrate the city’s history from its beginnings with the ancient mounds of Gamla Uppsala, through the prehistoric era and the reign of Swedish kings. Continuing into the heart of Uppsala, we’ll learn about prominent Uppsala figures, writers, and personalities such as Gösta Knutsson, Owe Törnqvist, and Ingmar Bergman. We’ll pass by newer buildings like the Mosque and Uppsala Concert & Congress Hall. In Uppsala’s historic quarters, we’ll see Uppsala Castle, the Botanical Garden, the University Library Carolina Rediviva, the University, and Gustavianum. We’ll make a stop at the Cathedral, where we’ll have the opportunity to admire the grandeur of the largest cathedral in the Nordic region from the inside.
After a delicious lunch, we’ll visit Bror Hjorth’s House, where a guide will share insights into Bror Hjorth’s art and life as we explore his home and studio. Following his passing, the studio was transformed into an artist’s museum. Bror Hjorth lived and worked here for twenty-five years. In addition to Bror Hjorth’s art, exhibitions featuring other artists are displayed in an adjacent art gallery.
