On the museum railway Lennakatten, you have the opportunity to experience a journey with steam locomotives, historic diesel locomotives, and rail buses through Uppland.
Operates only during the summer season.
Just outside Uppsala lies the idyllic Länna Bruk. In a building dating back to the 1760s, workers came and went for 200 years. The old blast furnace and sawmill have now become a winery, distillery, and brewery. The company has its own vineyard in Leptokaryá on the slopes of Mount Olympus in Greece and produces not only wine but also gin, rum, and beer. During a tour, the owners will share insights about the operation and production, and offer tastings for interested groups.
In 1760, a new ironworks opened in the small town of Länna. Iron production was successful, but there were challenges in obtaining raw materials for the ironworks. Therefore, it was decided to build a new railway between Uppsala and Länna. In 1876, the Upsala-Lenna Railway opened for traffic.
The veteran train Lennakatten, a familiar sight in Uppsala, takes us through the beautiful countryside and arrives at Länna Bruk an hour later. We’ll enjoy a communal lunch before embarking on a tour of the old sawmill. Our bus will then transport us back home.
