The Linnaeus Garden is a reconstruction of how Linnaeus’s botanical garden looked in the mid-18th century. Each plant was carefully selected by Linnaeus, and every part of the garden served a scientific and educational purpose. Today, the garden is one of Uppsala’s internationally renowned attractions.

In the Linnaeus Garden, a great variety thrives in a small area. More than 1,300 species of Swedish and foreign herbs, flowers, trees, shrubs, and hedges can be found here. Some species begin to bloom early in spring, and thereafter, the floral display continues with different varieties succeeding each other throughout the summer. Many of the plants were brought by his disciples from several different countries, which he cared for tenderly, along with the animals—monkeys, parrots, and the raccoon Sjupp. Students received instruction in the garden and lectures in the professor’s residence. Through a visit, you can experience the everyday life of the Linnaeus family. What would Linnaeus have been without his wife Sara-Lisa, who managed everything in the household? Together with our guide, we will hear about and experience the Linnaeus Garden, his study, and the entire history of the professor.

We’ll enjoy a flavorful lunch at a pleasant restaurant in the city.

Then, the guide takes us on a short walk, narrating along the way about Linnaeus’s humble student life, his quest for knowledge at Gustavianum, his academic friends Peter Artedi and Nils Rosen, as well as his time as rector at the university. We conclude with a visit to Linnaeus’s grave in Uppsala Cathedral. Along the way, we pass the Fyris River, the university, and other historically significant sites in Linnaeus’s Uppsala.
