Grönsöö Schloss und Park
„Grönsöö Castle represents, in its richness and diverse composition, together with the well-preserved interiors, three centuries of Swedish craftsmanship and art history.“
The scenery around Grönsöö, nestled on a small peninsula in Lake Mälaren, is breathtakingly beautiful, surrounded by the stunning castle park. Upon arrival at Grönsöö, we will be welcomed by a representative from the von Ehrenheim family. Here, we’ll have the opportunity to experience one of Sweden’s most beautiful parks, explore the exhibition in the carriage house and warehouse, and receive a guided tour of the castle’s well-preserved interiors. Coffee and sandwiches will be served at the Distillery, and in the castle shop, you can purchase gifts and the castle’s own Grönsöö cider. When Johan Skytte built his castle in 1611 at Grönsöö, he borrowed Karl IX’s court gardener, Johan Ludvigsson, to create two Renaissance gardens with fruit trees. This became the starting point for what is now Grönsöö Castle Park and Gardens.
We’ll enjoy lunch in Enköping before our guide, Elisabet Lind, takes the lead and shares the story of how Enköping’s parks have evolved into the city’s major tourist attraction. We’ll learn about how plants are combined to create spaces and environments, and how perennial plants are used extensively throughout the city, in parks, roundabouts, along streets, and in squares. The walk will take us through some of the smaller pocket parks and to a larger park. The tour concludes in the Dream Park, created by Piet Oudolf, known for his spectacular compositions with tall and colorful perennials. The walk is between 1-1½ km long, and we’ll proceed at a leisurely pace.
